Man talking with a doctor.

Did you know prostate cancer is the most common cancer in U.S. men and the second leading cause of cancer death for men in the U.S.? If alarm bells are ringing in your head, take a moment to calm your mind. There is good news. There are many treatments options for prostate cancer. Your doctor can help you choose the best one for you from options like active surveillance, surgery, radiation, hormones (Androgen Deprivation Therapy or ADT), chemotherapy and immunotherapy.

Let’s talk a bit more about hormonal therapy and prostate cancer. Prostate cancer cells use the hormone testosterone to grow. In other words, testosterone can act as food for prostate cancer, helping the cancer grow.

Hormonal Therapy or Androgen Deprivation Therapy (ADT) is a treatment option usually given together with another therapy for men who choose radiation or men with advanced disease. ADT works by starving prostate cancer cells of testosterone to slow cancer growth. By learning more about ADT for prostate cancer, you may feel more ready to talk with your doctor.
