International Dance Day: Don’t Let Your Bladder Stop You from Dancing Through Life

Posted on: 29 Apr 2022

April 29th is International Dance Day! It was created by the Dance Committee of the International Theatre Institute (ITI) on the birthday of Jean-Georges Noverre, who is the creator of modern ballet. This is a day to celebrate dance around the world. No matter what language you speak, dance is a way to bring people together.

Now you may be asking yourself, how does dance relate to urology? Great question! We are so glad you asked!

When it comes to your health, one of the key factors talked about for living a healthy life is staying active. Exercise, Exercise, Exercise. What better way to exercise than to put on your favorite song and move?! What if you have a urologic condition like incontinence or overactive bladder though? If you have one of these conditions, dancing may be one of the last activities you want to do for fear of leaking urine. But don’t think this means you have to sit on the sidelines of this dance party!

There are many treatment options for incontinence and overactive bladder. Check out these bladder health resources to get started! As always, it is of great value to talk to your doctor about any concerns around your health.  Pelvic floor muscle strengthening and relaxing exercises may also help you daily to prevent urine leaks.

So on this international dance day, and any day for that matter, don’t be shy - get up and dance! Making dinner? Turn on music in the kitchen and make it fun for the whole family! Having a bad day? Turn the volume up on your favorite song and rock out! Just want to have a good time? Make it a party with friends or by yourself and get your body moving! The thing to keep in mind is to HAVE FUN!
