January 21st is National Hugging Day! Hugging is one of the most basic forms of intimacy within all types of relationships. It can be shared to celebrate joy or comfort sadness. Along with hugging, there are many other ways people can be intimate with one another. Intimacy may not come easy to all people and it can be made harder when a urologic condition is present.
When one partner has a urologic condition, intimacy may not feel very comfortable at first. A person may feel embarrassed and may in turn push their partner away. It is of great value to talk to your partner about what you are going through and how you are feeling. Having these open talks may make you feel less alone and may help you feel more at ease. Just by opening up and sharing your feelings with another person can bring you closer together.
It may be helpful to bring your partner to any appointments you have so they can better understand and support you along the way. There are certain conditions that may affect someone’s ability to be intimate, specifically when it comes to sexual health. Check out this feature story on how urology affects sexual health to read what Dr. Mehta has to say about this connection.
Here’s to National Hugging Day! May all your days be filled with warm hugs!
