In today’s world, it is quite normal to see ads for products on how to prevent or reduce wrinkles, cover gray hair and stay looking fit, all to make people feel younger as they age. One area that isn’t talked about very much, at least not in the public eye, is pelvic floor health. Having a healthy pelvic floor may not seem as glamorous as having perfect skin, but some may argue it may have an equal or greater value to your overall health. While pelvic floor muscles can’t be seen, they do age just like our face, skin and body as a whole.
This fall issue covers many conditions in urology about pelvic floor health, such as pelvic pain, pelvic floor dysfunction and urine leaks (incontinence), just to name a few. These mostly affect women, but can also affect men as well. The focus of our feature article with Dr. Elizabeth Timbrook Brown is how to maintain a healthy pelvic floor so people can feel strong and take back control of their health as they age.
