September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month. It's a great time to explore the host of free resources on prostate health from the Urology Care Foundation and its Know Your Stats about Prostate Cancer® campaign. This includes 3 crucial videos for patients and their loved ones.
This year, the Foundation has released 3 new prostate cancer videos to educate current and future prostate cancer patients about what to expect before, during and after treatment.
Treatment Options for Localized Prostate Cancer
Localized prostate cancer is when the cancer hasn't left the prostate. There are many effective treatment options but they can be a complex subject. There are many factors that could affect your choice.
Prostate Cancer: Active Surveillance
Active Surveillance is a type of treatment option for prostate cancer. In this method, if the cancer is not considered an immediate threat, the doctor watches it closely. If the cancer becomes worse, the patient and their doctor explore other ways to treat the cancer.
Life After Prostate Cancer
After treatment for prostate cancer patients may have side-effects. Two common issues are Erectile Dysfunction and Urinary Incontinence. The Foundation has facts on what to expect with life after prostate cancer, and advice for dealing with common issues after treatment.
Thank you to Georgetown University Medical Center, the Richard J. Fox Foundation and MedStar Georgetown University Hospital for supporting these videos. Thank you as well to prostate cancer survivor and Foundation Public Education Council chair, Dr. John Lynch.
